REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS:

Ghulam Kazi - father of Abdul Hamid Kazi and a staple in the Malton Muslim community - was recently diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and will undergo treatments in early February. We request everyone to make dua'a (supplication) for him that Allah SWT makes this ordeal easy for him and for his family Inshallah.

URGENT:

EVERYONE IS NOW BANNED FROM GOING TO THE 2ND FLOOR OF LEACOCK ARENA.

Due to the actions of a few troublemakers, no one is allowed to go to the 2nd floor to view games or just 'hang around' unless you are actually running on the above track or attending a function in one of the party rooms. Anyone caught up there will not just be escorted back downstairs, they will be told to leave the building.

New Rule

There will be a new rule implemented this season and it has nothing to do with game play. We will introduce a shorts rule and Inshallah we will enforce it to the fullest. All players are now required to make sure that theirs knees are covered or they will NOT be allowed to play. This can be done in many ways:

1. If you wear long enough shorts that cover your knees.

2. If you wear protection that covers your knees.

3. Or just wear pants.

The reason we are taking action with this rule is that this is something that some of us are taking for granted and not realizing we are doing 'Haraam' by exposing our knees. Here are a couple of Hadiths in regards to covering up.

Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) is reported to have said on the authority of Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.), ‘’One man must not see the ‘’AWRAH’’ (the area between the naval to below the knees) of another man. (Muslim)

Abu Musa (R.A.) is reported to have said that Nabee Muhammad (S.A.W) covered his knees upon the entry of Uthmaan (R.A.)
(Bukhari)

It is very important that we cover our Satr(area between naval and knees) because it is not just about yourself committing sin by exposing the area but it is also about the rest of us  possibly getting sin by seeing it.

Pre-Game Hadith

We will be doing the Hadiths before the games with both teams presenting. Again if teams don't produce a hadith then they will get a 2 minute penalty.

Week 4 Previews

4pm: Markham Pirates vs Hitmen

If the Markham Pirates want to make a push up the standings, these are the games they need to do it in. The Hitmen are reeling thus far in their first foray into the torrential waters of Tier 1. No wins, lack of goals and no energy during the games are proving their downfall and they really need to find some sort of spark to get them going. The Pirates however have a sound offence with their 12 goals for, but their defence and goaltending are letting them down. The Hitmen themselves want to get out of the funk as soon as possible and this would be a statement game for them for sure. Only 4 players on the whole roster have one point or more so the as a team, the men in White have to get some sort of goal support for their goalie Steve Devekos.

5pm: Markham Jrs Malton Mavericks T2

Two teams near the bottom of the standings do battle and this could potentially be a matchup where one team has a chance to turn their season around. Markham and Malton are known for their abundance of energy and ability to pull out wins. This year has been trying for both squads as output in the goals department has been hard to come by. Markham's balanced offence could be the key to get them past the Mavs as they have spread out their scoring and have depth down the bench. Malton however, have relied really on just one line of Zahid Panchbaya and Gopi Johal so more is needed to help the defence and goaltending out.

6pm: Durham vs Donlands Midnite Ryderz

People are scratching their heads as to why the Ryderz of Donlands are still winless and are not playing the inspirational hockey they once did the previous seasons. The club is mired in last place and it mainly has to do with the lack of offence and the porous defence. They will be in tough once again against a resilient Durham team that has size and strength and after last week's showing, are able to cause turnovers and capitalize on opportunities. Durham's goaltending in Zayd Agjee is vastly improving which doesn't bode well for any opponent so if the Ryderz want to compete and turn this thing around, they will have to take a hit against the boards and find ways to score early and play a strong defensive game.

7pm: Donlands Mighty Ducks vs Malton Mavericks T2

The other Donlands squad the Mighty Ducks however are playing some good hockey as of late and the Mavs depending on what happens in the first game earlier in the evening, will have to respond to the up-tempo style of play the Ducks can muster. Even though the Ducks haven't really produced heavily on offence, they now boast the best defensive squad thus far this season. Goalie Bilal Makrod has been astounding with a .937 percentage and hold a sparkling 1.26 GAA. He's turning a lot of heads giving his team the chance to win each night. The Ducks as mentioned before don't score much, but when they do, they have a balanced scoring output and the infusion of little-known Jack Curtis has certainly given this team that much added boost on the floor.

8pm: Malton Mavericks T1 vs Palace Panthers

The Mavericks are a contender for the finals and the Panthers are hoping to be recognized in that category but they have a long way to go and a win against the Mavs will help to elevate their status and their confidence. Despite not having a win to date the Panthers take a positive into the game and that is they somewhat broke out of their scoring slump as a team and hopefully they can math and surpass that output this week. The Mavs have gotten younger all around but their solid play is due to their defense led by Shahraiz Buttar and the Azmi's on defense and the developing play of Riaz Parekh between the pipes. The same can't be said for the Panthers who have given up an average of 5 goals a game and the play of Zaid Memon has been suspect as of late. The team will have to pull together and play much better in front of him as the blame can't go solely on the netminder.

9pm: Palace Bandits vs Tpark Jrs

The Bandits are a middle of the pack team but they do stick out above the rest as they are the 3rd highest scoring team but in the same note have given up the most goals in the league. Their outburst on offense is in large part due to the impressive play of Uzair Limbada who is tearing it up this season and if he continues at this pace then the MHL might have to implement drug testing poicies. The Bandits have a stud on defense in Husain Patel who has 4 points on the season but for Palace to improve they will have to be patient in the development of goaltender Usman Variava. Don't know how patient they will be in playing the second best team in T-Park as they have weapons on offense from Yusuf Memon and Aasim patel to Humzah and Sufyan Jogiyat.  They Afzal Vepari in goal who can be better as he can steal a win for his team. Despite the standings these are somewhat similar teams which in turn should make for an interesting contest.

10pm: Tpark Youngstars vs Palace Panthers

This is the second meeting between these two clubs on the season and if you ask the Panthers they will tell you they don't remember the first game because they were shalacked by a score of 8-1. To make matters worse for the Panthers this will be their second game of the night and you know the Youngstars will be chomping at the bit to pad their stats once again. The only way the Panthers have a chance is if Zaid Memon still remembers the first match-up as he was lit up for all 8 goals and hopefully he might have something to prove which could make this game just a little bit interesting. This could be a monumental night for the Panthers as they could surprise the MHL world and beat the two best teams in the same night or could take one of the worst beatings known to man. Good Luck Panthers.

10:50pm: Jr Warriors vs IFT Knights

The Warriors are perfect on the season but some of their wins have not been all that impressive as they have stumbled to the finish line on a few occasions. They are perfect on the season but with the way the MHL's newest team the Knights are playing it looks like the Warriors 4 game winning streak might come to an end. The Warriors have a well balaned attack and have seen a resurgene in the play of Ismail Dawood as he returns to the way he played in the 2011 summer season and  a surprise on offense with Hanif Kasuji putting in his contributions but the story of this team is the play of Shezaad Shaikh who has been a model of consistency and has taken his game to another level as he has yet to give up a late goal in a game that could have easily swayed the outcome in 3 of their 4 games. Shezaad will have a good test this saturday in the Knights as they are a fundemantally sound team and just look to keep climbing the standings led by the hard nosed play of Idris Khan, Abdul-Wahab Khawaja and Hashim Chaudhry. More scoring though would be ideal for this club but in the mean time they are able to make due with their strong defense and it wil be needed against the Warriors.
